Hamnholmen is a housing project located on the island of Lovund, Norway. Working with the island community in developing more housing, we saw the need for a public meeting place and the possibility to enter the waterfront for everyone. The wooden amfi with stairs and ramps towards the water has become one of the most popular meeting places on the island. The place is hosting small festivals and gatherings as well as the perfect spot for a dip in the warm arctic summer days.
The houses are inspired by the traditional Nordlandshus. The dimensions of the houses are small, while keeping a comfortable layout. The houses are spread around the bay to sit naturally in the landscape, and the materials used for the project change with weather and seasons and develop a beautiful patina over time.
